Bob LaBelle is a native New Englander who has returned after a long career at the Dept. of the Interior (DOI) in Washington, DC. His experience includes more than 25 years of senior level marine environmental policy, management and communications experience in the Federal government and related constituencies. Bob represented DOI on the Northeast Regional Planning Body, a 4-year effort which developed the nation’s first Regional Ocean Plan in 2017. Concurrently, he also led all Federal agencies, with states and tribes, in the similar completion of the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Action Plan, both of which prominently feature offshore wind. As Senior Advisor to the Director, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Bob served as agency lead on the DOI Senior Ocean Policy Team. Previously as Deputy Associate Director (2002-2010) he oversaw development of regulations for successful and safe offshore oil and gas and wind siting and permitting while working as the senior executive responsible for agency environmental programs, research, policies and implementation. This included leading multi-year research and development of baseline data sets for use in defining ecological, social and economic characteristics of offshore energy planning areas. Bob holds a BS (UMass) and MS in Marine Science (UMBC) and an MBA in Management (Loyola College, Md).
