Marstel-Day, LLC Advances to Finalist Stage in Prestigious Environmental Awards Program

OAKLAND, CA, February 3, 2014 – Acterra has announced that Marstel-Day, LLC has advanced to the Finalist Stage in the 2014 Business Environmental Awards. Marstel-Day, LLC has been selected from a highly competitive field of applicants in the category of Acterra Award for Sustainability for its all-around achievements in sustainable business practices.

Marstel-Day is elated to be recognized as a finalist for the Acterra Business Environmental Award in Sustainability for the second year in a row. Marstel-Day continues to be a leader in the workplace by promoting sustainability through its Green Commitment to adopt progressive environmental standards and practices that demonstrate its internal corporate commitment. This commitment is also carried out in its client work which aims to provide clients with concepts, strategies, and plans of action for landscape-scale conservation of natural resources, climate adaptation, energy planning and “net zero” strategies.

Highlights from this past year include creating a Chief Sustainability Officer position and launching a “Green Leasing Evaluation” to incorporate sustainability in the site selection process for new leased office space. Marstel-Day also promotes the walkability of its office locations. In the Oakland office alone, over 90% of employees walk, bike or use public transportation to get to work, preventing an additional 105 lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere daily. To assist other service businesses in achieving a similar shade of green, Marstel-Day is working with the National Standards Foundation International to develop a sustainable services protocol for businesses in the service sector. This effort will help to establish a path forward for any service company that wants a relevant and credible way to certify their sustainability.
Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s oldest and most prestigious environmental recognition programs. Initiated in 1990, it is considered a heavyweight among award programs due to its rigorous application and judging process. “In addition to a written application, all finalists must demonstrate their programs’ merits firsthand to the expert panel of judges during a visit to their facilities,” states Board President Laura Teksler. “We look forward to learning about the finalists’ programs in further detail and appreciate the opportunity to be informed by their exemplary achievements.”

Awardees will be announced on March 17th and honored at the 2014 Business Environmental Awards Reception on Wednesday, May 28th at Intuit Corporation in Mountain View. For more information, please visit
